Who invented Limoncello?

We may never know for sure as there are different stories about the origins of limoncello. What we know is that at least exist for more than 100 years, some stories say that in the 20th century it was customary for the wealthiest Sorrento families to always offer a taste of limoncello to their guests. Others says that Maria Farnace from Capri was absolutely the first local lady to invent this liqueur of maybe this recipe was originated inside a monastic convent lemon garden. What we know for sure is that today is the king of the digestives.
